Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (aka, Dick Weed) will appear on the cover of the Aug. 3 edition of Rolling Stone magazine.
Not sure why we are so surprised when stuff like this happens in journalism. This is how it’s always been done (see below). They’ll keep doing it as long as we’re buying.
A South Carolina newspaper is apologizing for placing an advertisement for “Guns for Christmas” next to its story about the Connecticut elementary school shooting which left 20 children and half a dozen adults dead. The Rock Hill Herald’s ad showed a picture of an AR-15 rifle, which is the same model used by 20-year-old Adam Lanza to kill 26 people and himself on Friday in Newtown, Connecticut.
This New York Post cover printed this week shows a man who had been pushed on the tracks moments before a train hits and kills him. People are pretty upset the Post decided to publish a photo of a man right before he was going to die. The photographer who took the photo (and witnessed the assault) claimed he could not help life the man and tried to use his camera flash to warn the subway train operator. Of course, that didn’t stop him from selling the photos to the New York Post.
Do you think this photo should have been published?

Unfortunate Juxtaposition spotted in today’s edition of the Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter, a full-page ad promoting cruise line packages just to the right of a full-page article about the Costa Concordia disaster.
Newspaper layout people should know better than this when a disaster has occurred.
Six dead, 16 missing is the latest count in the Costa Concordia disaster. A couple from Minnesota are among the missing.
