Never forget the collective power of the people. See how Congress’s positions on SOPA/PIPA have changed since the unified blackout on Wednesday.

Change people got hoodwinked on.

If Ron Paul wins Iowa today, this might be why.

The Pledge of Allegiance

I bet you haven’t said this out loud for a long time. Try it. It might make you feel good.

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

In the news this week

Adam CarollaI was happy to hear Adam Carolla step up and highlight the hypocrisy in the media regarding his recent OWS rant. The sooner we realize it exists on the far right AND the far left, the better off we’ll be in this country.
Korn
Jonathan Davis, lead singer of the band Korn is not known to speak politically about things, but in a recent interview with Billboard.com, he explains his thinking behind the new track “Illuminati.” He believes that Obama is “an Illuminati puppet” and that maybe this One World Government stuff holds some truth. It seems he doesn’t care what other musicians in the industry think about his conspiracy theory thinking. I respect him for speaking his mind on a fear that more and more regular folks in America have. Not just crazies. 🙂
Sat Chair
Live in an apartment or condo that doesn’t allow you to install a satellite dish? Sat+ has created a chair-shaped satellite dish secretly giving you hundreds of channels without being hassled by your landlord. For the time being the Sat Chair looks is only available from European sites for around $325. Maybe Dish or DirectTV will starting making some?

I am finally reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and am really looking forward to the film. Here is an 8 minute trailer if you are interested.
A soldier who returned home after serving in Afghanistan surprised her family by popping out of a Christmas gift.
Am I a jerk for being tired of seeing news reports of soldiers return home to surprise a family member? Here’s another one. Like flash mobs of people dancing in the street, these cute (but sappy) reunions are becoming an everyday occurrence.

Albert Pujols

Albert Pujols thanking God for the obscene amount of money he just got paid.

Albert Pujols agreed to a deal that will pay him $254 million over 10 years to play baseball (a game) for the Angels. I love baseball, but am tired of teams trying to buy championships. Can we please just get a salary cap in place???

Political musings

Taylor Garrett is a cast member of the gay reality TV show “A-List Dallas”

If you are gay, GLAAD and the left will defend you. Not if you are a Republican though. Read this story about how reality TV show star Taylor Garrett gets a beat down and vandalized because he’s a gay conservative associated with commentator Ann Coulter.

Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) identified several celebrities receiving farm subsidies whose professions had nothing to do with farming or agriculture. Did you know Jon Bon Jovi paid property taxes of only $100 last year on his extensive real estate holdings in New Jersey that he uses to raise bees? He’s not alone. Bruce Springsteen, Ted Turner, Quincy Jones and others are collecting too. Is it right? I don’t know, but it does make me cringe a bit. I won’t fault people (even celebrities) for taking advantage of loopholes that are in place. If we as a society think it’s wrong, then we need to change the laws I guess. See story.

Jay-Z
Rapper Jay-Z loves the Occupy Wall Street movement and is making some good money off a new line of Rocawear branded OWS T-shirts (see story). At this time, he has not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement. I think it’s great that he is demonstrating entreprenurial skills. Good for him.

leonardo-dicaprio-J-EdgarAnyone else tired of seeing Leo take on these “older” roles? He has such a baby face, I can’t usually take him seriously when he plays really mature roles. I don’t know if I’ll see the new Hoover movie because of this. Plus, I don’t think I can look past that terrible make-up job. I do like Eastwood though. Hmmm, what to do?

Have we created a generation of self-entitled cry babies?

The Occupy Wall Street protesters are complaining about everything from corporations to having to repay student loans. Is America the victim of its own success? Have we created a generation of self-entitled cry babies? Bill Whittle thinks so and poignantly explains it in this video.  Do you agree with Bill’s assessment of the situation?

Heckler Interrupts Obama and calls him the antichrist

A heckler shouting about Jesus Christ interrupted President Barack Obama at a fundraiser before security dragged him out. As he was removed the man called out that Obama is the antichrist. The President maintained his good composure, but was probably thinking (like me) that now would be a good time for God to do some of that striking-down-upon-thee-with-great-vengeance-and-furious-anger type stuff.
