I was very sad to hear the news about Porky’s in St. Paul closing it’s doors. The neighborhood drive-in rode the crusin’ craze of the 1950’s in St. Paul and was a place to show off your classic car while eating famous onion rings. Everyone who lives in Minnesota has a story about this place.
Even though the owners said business was good, the tax hikes and newly planned construction of the Central Corridor light-rail line were factors in closing.
Porky’s will close their doors this Sunday. Thanks a lot light-rail people. I hope your happy.

Lance Cardinal is a big Muppet fan. He is also a student at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, and a freelance set designer.
Nine years ago, Palisades Toys started releasing high-quality Muppet Show action figures. Lance bought 82 characters and all the playsets, including Swedish Chef’s kitchen and the Electric Mayhem concert stage. But before Palisades could release a Muppet Theatre Backstage Playset to hold all the characters, the company went out of business.
Sad about not having this last set piece, he decided to make his own. The result is stunning and beautiful. You can view it here on his website.

If you were looking for a good reason NOT to get your kid into yoga, I have several here in this video. Yogi Oki-Doki is dude who teaches yoga to children. He gives them instructions for different yoga positions while people in animal costumes stare and make unfortunate sounds. It’s terrifying and a bit pedophilic.
I’ve gotta go find an eye-wash station now to erase what I just watched.
Here is a look at the new ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ poster. The final showdown between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his nemesis Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) looks to be a good one. The movie opens on July 15th in 2D and 3D.

MN Canidates for President
Two-term Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty is running for president in 2012. It also appears likely that Michele Bachmann will be forming her exploratory committee this summer. Both politicians have their share of supporters and critics, so it will be interesting to watch this play out. Unfortunately, I think the vitriol is going to be brutal during the next presidential campaign. I am not looking forward to that.
Who do you think has a better chance at getting the Republican nomination for president in 2012?

Oh Michael Cera. We fell in love with you playing George-Michael Bluth in “Arrested Development“. Then 2007 happened, and you gave us cinematic gems with Superbad and Juno. But now we are on to you. Your movies have a secret formula, and we now have the recipe. As George Bush so famously said, “There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.” Only, we will allow ourselves to get fooled again in 2012 when the Arrested Development movie comes out.
There is no shortage of fish tales circulating the internet. Some last for years thanks for people like my Dad who, innocently enough, take things at face value. Other fishing resorts and guide services claim these stories as their own to bring in business. If it’s on the internet, it must be true right?
The truth is most sportsmen WANT to believe this stuff. If you hunt for fish, you have had dreams of the trophy buck or the record pike. I had a dream once that I caught a 5 lb black crappie in 3 feet of water.
The story of the record northern pike caught in Turtle Lake outside of Saskatchewan landed in my inbox again this morning. The fish pictured has been “caught” in Canada, the U.S.A., and the Baltic. The story varies a bit each time, but usually involves a guy who is landing a smaller pike only to have this monster hit it. The story ends with the fisherman landing both of them in the same net.

The most accurate story I can tell you is that the pike was actually caught in Holland by Ewout Blom. The Pike Anglers Club of Great Britian secured Ewout’s story for issue 117 of Pikelines.
