Delaware Department of Transportation crews escorted by state police tore down basketball hoops this morning in two neighborhoods in Claymont amid protests from residents who say the nets aren’t harming anyone.
Last fall, DelDOT sent letters to at least eight residents in the Radnor Green and Ashbourne Hills subdivisions saying their street-side basketball hoops violated the state’s Clear Zone law, which prohibits hoops, trees, shrubs and other objects from being within seven feet of the pavement’s edge in subdivisions.
DelDOT told residents that if they didn’t take down the hoops that the agency would and residents would be charged for the removal and disposal costs, said Radnor Green resident John McCafferty. (via)
The ruling on homeowners having basketball hoops is ridiculous. The use of tax payer money for something like this is astonishing. Unfortunately, asinine things like this are happening in neighborhoods all over the U.S. The law is the law I guess, but geez.
See video of a homeowner plead with DOT workers while they use a front loader to take away his basketball hoop.
Where were you when Elvis died? Where were you when you heard that JFK was shot? Every generation has their own pop culture tragedies that affect them in personal ways. Gen-xers are no different and experienced their own shock when they heard that Kurt Cobain committed suicide on April 5, 1994.
I was driving southbound across the Cedar Avenue bridge when I heard the news on the local rock station here in the Twin Cities. I was never a gigantic Nirvana fan from the onset, but the news hit me hard just the same. I was part of that older Gen-X segment that mostly grew up with the hair and metal bands of the ’80s. Many of us viewed Nirvana and the grunge movement as an assault to the technical proficiency and song writing we were used to in rock music.
We didn’t think it would last. Boy, were we wrong.
I appreciate Nirvana and what they brought to music now more as an adult. Sometimes, it’s hard to see the profoundness of history being made while you are living it.
Kurt Cobain was always known as the “reluctant rock star.” I disagree with that assessment. I believe Kurt was pretty selfish and knew what he was doing all along. Read between the lines of his suicide note if you want evidence of that. Stardom didn’t drive him to suicide; mental illness and drugs did. Let’s not forget that.

Here is a well-executed print campaign for LEGO. These four ads beautifully convey the power of a child’s imagination. Will all of the technology and gadgets we have today, none of them can compare to what the mind can create. I hope we never lose toys like LEGO.

I have a running bet with a couple of my friends on whether or not Guns N’ Roses will reunite with Axl, Duff, and Slash. I think they will…someday. There is simply too much money to be had.
A good friend of mine who used to be a die-hard Guns fan (but now thinks U2 is the greatest band in existence) thinks they will NEVER reunite and that if they did reunite, their tour would not break any ticket records. He also adds that a reunited Guns N’ Roses tour would never break a top U2 tour in terms of gross tickets.
I disagree. Completely.
Take a look at the latest data on the top-grossing concert tickets of all time, and then take my poll.

I played in my first T1000 Texas Hold’em tournament this past weekend. Between 10 guys, I placed 3rd. I was happy with my playing, and I’d love to do it again sometime. The first guy didn’t get knocked out for over three hours. As the blinds started doubling though, people were dropping like flies. This is the hand that won it all after about five hours of play.

In honor of April Fool’s Day, I wanted to show you what I think is still the funniest pranks of all time. The video shows a guy tormenting his roommate by buttering the kitchen floor. The result is a messy pile of roommate on the floor and us as viewers crying from laughter. Enjoy.
