Crash landing on the Hudson River

This animation is based on all currently available data concerning the US Airways Flight 1549 crash landing on the Hudson River (Cactus 1549). Satellite imagery, elevation models and robust GIS mapping methods are utilized to create a vegetation model, terrain model and ground clutter (3D buildings). Of all available audio tracks, only two are used, La Guardia Tower and New York TRACON Departure controller position. Radar data as well as the onboard Flight Data Recorder are utilized in constructing the flight path of the aircraft.

The pilot Sully Sullenbergerand first officer was Jeffrey B. Skiles have ice in their veins. You can hear it in the eerie audio communication between the cockpit and the control tower. They could have all been heading towards their death, but you wouldn’t have known it based on their composure.

I would have been crying like a Japanese girl at a 1987 Bon Jovi concert.

Your Racist, Shilling, Sad Sack Status Updates Are Why People Keep Unfriending You

angry facebookA new study shows why people drop you as a Facebook friend.

23% of people unfriend for depressing comments; 20% for “lack of interaction” (sorry, dead people!); 14% for “political comments”; 11% for “breakup/divorce”; 8% for “don’t like their friends” (you just chuckled in recognition, didn’t you?); “update profile too often” and “they add too many people” tied at 6% and “they don’t update often enough” coming in last at 3%.

I’m guilty of some of these.

Summary (as Gawker put it) – “Your Racist, Shilling, Sad Sack Status Updates Are Why People Keep Unfriending You”

So if you don’t care and want to lose all your friends immediately, just post the following status update every five minutes for a week:

Why can’t [members of racial group] be more like [members of other racial group] and vote for [political party]? Buy my homemade jewelry so that I won’t have to kill myself.

Jon Bon Jovi is not dead

Thank God! When I saw the Tweets yesterday proclaiming my childhood rock star idol had died, I nearly wept. I wondered who would play his benefit concert. I dusted off my “Slippery When Wet” cassette tape. I moved “Moonlight and Valentino” to the top of my Netflix queue. I prayed. Then in a flash, I learned it was all a hoax. The world was right again.
