Tiny Crime Scene Tape

Bad things happent to good people. When the police have left and the witnesses have been interviewed, the crime scene tape remains. Design studio Aint Rocket Science have developed Tiny Crime Scene Tape, a small roll of vinyl tape for closing off the mini crime scenes in your life. Rope off that box of chocolates you just destroyed, or that bag of Doritos you ate while watching reruns of Ugly Betty. You can buy it here. What would you use it for?

360-degree panoramic images of NYC crime scenes

360-degree panoramic images of NYC crime scenes

Undercover narcotics officers chased a 15-year-old suspected of having a firearm into a building courtyard. After firing at him, police learned that the suspect was holding a pellet gun covered with black tape, not a real gun. The boy was hospitalized and was later charged in family court. The investigation is closed.

In 2009, the NYPD started using a camera called the Panoscan to capture high-resolution, 360-degree panoramic images of crime scenes. This new view is much better than photo snapshots or handheld video camera recordings because it captures everything surrounding the crime scene (even above in the sky). This allows investigators to point and click over evidence from a scene that they might have missed in the hectic hours after the crime.

Click here to view some of the real crime scenes in all of their gore and rawness. Humanity can be ugly.

Cool table made from a reclaimed door

Manoteca is a design studio located in Bologna (Italy) focusing on reclaimed furniture design. The first piece is called outdoor, it’s a table built starting from an old exterior door. It can be used as a table for 8 or it can be opened and used as desk/work station. See more of this type of stuff at at Manoteca’s site.

1. Want to see pictures of North Korea’s rusting, dilapidated amusement park. Apparently the government has to bus in a few loads of forced patrons just to keep the park from being absolutely empty. Full story here.
2. Barry Deley, a British-Columbian sports anchor, wins a house worth $2.5 million live on the air. When the winning name is drawn, it quickly dawns on the news team that it’s their own sportscaster. Watch video.
3. This is worth another mention. Check out this funny collection of dating videos from the 80s.
4. Options for Bunker Living. I’ve always wondered where they park their car? Story here.

4. I love this story about a guy named Taylor Baldry who thinks we have forgotton how satisfying it is to have fce-to-face conversations with people. He recently set up a table and chairs at Lake Calhoun with a sign that read “Free Conversations.” He has a menu board of topics he’ll discuss with you. For more than 2 1/2 hours, the folding chairs were never empty. (full story)
5. I love tree houses! I have never had one, but I think I want to build one someday. Maybe I’ll hire German treehouse design firm Baumraum to build it. Then I could have something like this!
