Marketing and advertising news and tactics that caught my eye.

Vasectomy Madness

You’ve talked it over with the wife. The kids are older now, and you have decided to put the kibosh on any future ruffians. You reluctantly agree to the dreaded vasectomy. Since it will feel like you have been kicked in the gym bag for three days, you might as well schedule it while something fun is on television.

This ad for Virginia Urology is encouraging men to do it now while March Madness is on. Brilliant! (via)

Here are some other times of the year to get a vasectomy:

  • Shark Week
  • Opening weekend of football (careful here, there might be a lockout this season)
  • The week any new Call of Duty game goes on sale
  • During the holidays if you want to avoid your family

Recently dumped sex doll commits suicide

McCann Erickson, Prague and Lide.cz created this ad for the most popular dating site in the Czech Republic. The spot shows a devastated sex doll commit suicide because her manhandler dumped her to find human love online (which probably how he wound up with a sex doll in the first place). It is beautifully done and just what a guy would need to break up with his sex doll. I’m afraid that women using this dating site are now going to be flooded with requests from douchebags.

Augmented Reality & the iPad 2

Augmented reality got a lot of attention last year, so the novelty has worn off a bit. However, the iPad 2’s 3-D hardware is powerful stuff. As tablets become more ubiquitous, most feel Augmented Reality will be used daily.

Watch these examples of AR in action and imagine the possibilities this technology can bring to business, 3-D gaming, and apps for everyday life.

Don’t drink & drive on St. Patricks Day

Drunk Driving Prevention Ad

MN reminding it's residents to not drive drunk on St. Patricks Day

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety has a great new message they are promoting to keep people from driving drunk on St. Patrick’s Day.

The ad does a nice job reminding residents that DWI patrols will be in full effect.

Drive safely everyone!

New ‘Mad Men’ ad shows falling man

Imagine being the creative advertising agency that has to pitch cool and interesting ideas to promote the show ‘Mad Men.’ No pressure right? Well, DraftFCB does a nice job here with some outdoor advertising on the side of a building in New Zealand.

A Day Made of Glass

Here is a corporate video from Corning that has gone viral. It has been viewed more than 8 million times. It shows the innovation possibilities one can achieve with glass and how it can be applied on our daily lives. Though many of the ideas are futuristic, Corning believes they are possible and are working on making them a reality.

Subway’s unique locations

Subway sandwich chain has surpassed McDonald’s Corp. as the world’s largest restaurant chain in terms of units. How did they do it? They did it by opening outlets in non-traditional locations such as an automobile showroom in California, an appliance store in Brazil, a ferry terminal in Seattle, a riverboat in Germany, the zoo in Taiwan, a Goodwill store in South Carolina, a high school in Detroit and a church in Buffalo, New York.

If you are thinking of opening a new restaurant or eatery of some kind, maybe you should rethink your location.

Since we are talking about Subway, remember these? Remember how excited you’d get if the guy behind the register was in a hurry and gave you more stamps than you had coming? Subway finally phased out the stamps in 2005 due to widespread use of counterfeit stamps.

How to get your child to go to sleep

I know that putting a child to bed is a nightmare for a lot of parents. Bedtime can be a test of wills and nightly exercise in negotiations that would make you qualified to join the FBI.

This Sealy commercial gives parents hope that bedtime can be a peaceful transition.

The TV Commercial titled “BOY” was done by Leo Burnett. It was released in the Nov 2001. Still effective 11 years later.

What do you think this law firm specializes in?

I love advertising that conveys so much by saying so little. What do you think this law firm specializes in? Well done.
