At no point between “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Nookie” was the alternative bubble more booming than 1994. A record breaking eight alt-rock albums topped Billboard that year, and Lisa Loeb’s “Stay” let alternative nation plant a rare flag atop the singles charts. The Offspring sold more of their indie label record than Pink Floyd did on their major label record. Green Day stole Woodstock ’94 from Bob Dylan. New Kids on the Block broke up and Earl Sweatshirt was born. Here’s the 40 best albums from the year where the losers finally won.
I would not have ranked them in this order, but it is a solid list.

AC/DC fans are thunderstruck today to learn Malcom Young (61 years old) appears to be very sick. One report says Malcolm had a stroke, which left a blood clot in his brain. If this is true, the outlook appears to be dire for the AC/DC guitarist.
AC/DC, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, are one of the highest-grossing bands of all time, selling more than 200 million albums in the past 40 years.
Singer Brian Johnson revealed work on a new album had been delayed due to a health issue with one member back in 2012.
Singer Brian Johnson told a Florida radio station the anniversary tour was on hold but they were hoping to record next month.
‘We’ve been denying anything, ‘cause we weren’t sure. One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn’t like to say anything, and we’re very private about things like this, so we didn’t wanna say anything,’ the 66-year-old Johnson said in February.
‘And he’s a very proud man. But I think we’ll be going into the studio in May in Vancouver. Which means, we should be getting ready.
This week, reports surfaced again that Malcom was very ill and unable to perform. This has lead to wide speculation that the band would hang it up and retire.

UPDATE 10/2/2014: The family of founding AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young has confirmed the illness that forced the 61-year-old to quit the band.
“Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy,” they said in a statement
