Candidate for Minneapolis Mayor promises to stop going to strip clubs

The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party candidate for the current Minneapolis race for mayor, Jeffrey Alan Wagner, offers up a truly bizarre political ad.

Oh and BTW, here is a mugshot. What’s in the mug Jeff?

Mini donut beer

Local Minnesota brewer launches mini donut beer for MN State Fair.

Lift Bridge

Lift Bridge Brewing Co. is launching a mini donut-flavored beer for the Minnesota State Fair.

The Stillwater brewery teamed up with Dan and David Thiesen, co-owners of the fair’s Ball Park Café, to create the beer. It will have a warm tan color, like the exterior of a mini donut, and a sweet, malty taste. As an added touch, it will be served in a glass with cinnamon and sugar on the rim.

“We did several test batches to develop a mini donut beer recipe that would give taste buds the ultimate state fair experience,” Lift Bridge CEO and co-owner Dan Schwarz said in a statement. “We are feeling great about the final recipe and hope it is a home run with fair goers.”

Lift Bridge Mini Donut Beer will be sold at Ball Park Café, alongside numerous other craft beers, including Lift Bridge’s Farm Girl Saison and Hop Dish IPA. Ball Park Café is located on Underwood Street outside The Garden.

The Minnesota State Fair runs Aug. 22 through Sept. 2.

Grandma Drummer

An elderly woman recently stopped into Coalition Drum Shop in La Crosse, WI, sat down, and performed an awesome solo, complete with twirling the sticks in her fingers. Workers at the shop quipped, “We have no idea where this lady came from, what her name is, or where she went, but she rocked our faces off!”…

Statement On Vince Flynn’s, “The Survivor”

I received an email regarding Vince Flynn’s unfinished book, “The Survivor.” I have pasted it below.  I still think it would be a cool gesture if John Sanford, Lee Child, and Nelson DeMille teamed up to finish this book for Vince and for his fans. Maybe the proceeds to the book could go to prostate cancer research.

This downtown Minneapolis club opened in 1937 as a Greyhound depot, but the history of First Avenue as we know it begins with Prince. Throughout the Eighties, he and the Revolution were sort of the house band here – you can see it in all the famous concert scenes in Purple Rain. The club was also a key staging ground for the city’s punk-and-hardcore scene, starring the Replacements, Husker Du and Soul Asylum. Today’s fans still love the no-frills vibe and killer acoustics, even if waiting in line during a Minnesota winter can be a bummer. “Plus,” says hip-hop star Talib Kweli, a regular headliner, “I saw [famous rapper’s name redacted] deck an undercover cop and hop in a cab and get away at the club.”

Fun Fact: Prince reunited with his classic band, the Revolution, including Wendy and Lisa, at First Avenue early last year. Questlove DJed the post-show party.

The Twins retirement gift to Mariano Rivera

Last night, the Minnesota Twins gave retiring Yankee pitcher Mariano Rivera a rocking chair made with bats he has broken over his career.
