Augmented Reality & the iPad 2

Augmented reality got a lot of attention last year, so the novelty has worn off a bit. However, the iPad 2’s 3-D hardware is powerful stuff. As tablets become more ubiquitous, most feel Augmented Reality will be used daily.

Watch these examples of AR in action and imagine the possibilities this technology can bring to business, 3-D gaming, and apps for everyday life.

A Day Made of Glass

Here is a corporate video from Corning that has gone viral. It has been viewed more than 8 million times. How to rebuild Earth after 2012

This is cool. The Open Source Ecology (OSE) and the Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) started a project that is building 40 tools and machines that can be used to (re)create new civilizations with modern-day comforts. This technology and these new construction and agriculture designs will be great when we have to rebuild Earth after 2012. 🙂

But seriously, the prototypes here are impressive, and the practical applications are far-reaching. Think what small, remote villages and Third World countries could accomplish with these tools.

It’s a unique and engaging way to interact with your customers or social network. Generate and place QR codes on your business cards, company brochure, packaging label, in-store sign, direct mail, bumper sticker, or even a T-shirt.

They are great for to directing viewers to a particular how-to video, let them check in your venue on Google places or Foursquare, get them to follow you on Twitter and Facebook, or point them to a mobile website to get a coupon offer.

Try it out using some of these sites: http://jumpscan.com/ and http://www.likify.net and http://qrcode.kaywa.com/
