Via i09: It’s unclear which congregation is behind this wonderfully weird mannequin theater, but here is Luke Skywalker rebuking one parthenogenetically born poppa for another. Is this canon? Can this be canon? Please?

Hundreds of protesters chanting “Death to America” stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Sanna, Yemen on Thursday. The protesters then burned the U.S. flag.
The Obama administration will provide Yemen $337 million in aid in the 2012 fiscal year, up from $147 million provided in the previous fiscal year.
Billions more in aid has been given to middle eastern countries by this administration and the last.
Is giving billions in aid to Arab countries a good use of our tax money when they want “Death to America” and murder people trying to help them?
By the way, here is the video that outraged these idiots. My review of it is two thumbs down. The plot line is weak and the director of photography should be fired. Don’t see it in theaters. Wait for it on Redbox.

Pastor Randy “Mack” Wolford handles a rattlesnake during a service at the Church of the Lord Jesus in Jolo, W.Va. Each Labor Day weekend, the church has hosted a well-documented “homecoming” for snake handlers who believe that the Bible mandates that true Christians “take up serpents and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” Wolford says: “Anybody can do it that believes it.” PHOTO: Lauren Pond / FOR THE WASHINGTON POST
The line between “testing your faith” and being stupid just got thinner.
Mack Wolford, a flamboyant Pentecostal pastor from West Virginia whose serpent-handling talents were profiled last November in The Washington Post Magazine , hoped the outdoor service he had planned for Sunday at an isolated state park would be a “homecoming like the old days,” full of folks speaking in tongues, handling snakes and having a “great time.” But it was not the sort of homecoming he foresaw.
Instead, Wolford, who turned 44 the previous day, was bitten by a rattlesnake he owned for years. He died late Sunday.
The ridiculously preventable full story can be read here.

A highly venomous timber rattlesnake rests in a box in the Jolo church. About 80 to 100 deaths have been attributed to snake handling since its origins, and nearly every snake handler has been bitten, says the Rev. Bill Leonard, the religion professor from Wake Forest University. There’s a lot of pain when you’re bitten, says Wolford, whose father died at age 39 of a rattlesnake bite. “For the first couple of weeks, you swell up and break out in hives.”

Kidnapped for Christ follows the stories of several American teenagers who were sent to Escuela Caribe, an American-run Evangelical Christian “reform school” in The Dominican Republic. Many of them are taken from their homes against their will and shipped off there to live and correct bad behavior.

Mark Wahlberg is a Roman Catholic who goes to church every day to pray to be a better servant of God, and to try to be a better man.
Refreshing to hear a Hollywood star open up like this while so many of his peers speak of Christianity with such vitriol.

America’s Protestant pastors overwhelmingly reject the theory of evolution and are evenly split on whether the earth is 6,000 years old, according to a survey released Monday by the Southern Baptist Convention.
When asked if “God used evolution to create people,” 73% of pastors disagreed – 64% said they strongly disagreed – compared to 12% who said they agree.
Asked whether the earth is approximately 6,000 years old, 46% agreed, compared to 43% who disagreed.
A movement called Young Earth creationism promotes the 6,000-year-old figure, arguing that it is rooted in the Bible. Scientists say the earth is about 4.5 billion years old.
The Southern Baptist Convention survey, which queried 1,000 American Protestant pastors, also found that 74% believe the biblical Adam and Eve were literal people.
