Fake swimming pool

Fake swimming pool

This is the swimming pool art installation in 21st Century Museum of Art, at Kanazawa Japan by artist Leandro Erlich. The top surface is filled with 4 to 5 inches of water that looks like a realistic pool. The people underneath the swimming pool can actually look above with realistic water effect on top of it.

A layer of water only some 10 centimeters deep is suspended over transparent glass. Below the glass is an empty space with aquamarine walls that viewers can enter.

Here is video of it in action.

J. Edgar Hoover gave Shirley Temple a fountain pen that emitted tear gas

Shirley Temple–Hollywood’s most famous child star–could not be protected from such real-life intrusions as kidnap and extortion attempts, death threats and an attempted seduction by a Hollywood producer when she was only 12 years old. The threats weren’t reported at the time, she said, for fear that they would stimulate more threats.

The FBI was called in numerous times to investigate these death and extortion threats against her. She and J Edgar Hoover became friends through it all. In 1949, J. Edgar Hoover gave Shirley Temple a strange FBI souvenir– a fountain pen that emitted tear gas.

What a $20,000 cellphone looks like

January 23rd marks the beginning of the year of the dragon on the Chinese calendar, and Vertu is celebrating with a luxury dragon-themed mobile phone based on its Signature collection. Each quad-band dragon phone comes in stainless steel with emeralds, black steel with Rubies, or gold with diamonds. A four-clawed dragon mounted on the back is hand-made from a 20-step process that takes 36 hours to complete — the scales alone take more than eight hours to engrave. Before being mounted on the phone, each gold dragon is shipped to Switzerland to receive a hallmark of purity. All this labor and certification doesn’t come cheap. The handsets cost about $20,733 ($26,800 in Singapore dollars) each, but buyers get a leather case, a charging base, and one year of Vertu Concierge service free. There are really no specs of particular interest, but that’s not really the point. (via The Verge)

My diamond-encrusted Bluetooth should look good with this.
