Crash landing on the Hudson River

This animation is based on all currently available data concerning the US Airways Flight 1549 crash landing on the Hudson River (Cactus 1549). Satellite imagery, elevation models and robust GIS mapping methods are utilized to create a vegetation model, terrain model and ground clutter (3D buildings). Of all available audio tracks, only two are used, La Guardia Tower and New York TRACON Departure controller position. Radar data as well as the onboard Flight Data Recorder are utilized in constructing the flight path of the aircraft.

The pilot Sully Sullenbergerand first officer was Jeffrey B. Skiles have ice in their veins. You can hear it in the eerie audio communication between the cockpit and the control tower. They could have all been heading towards their death, but you wouldn’t have known it based on their composure.

I would have been crying like a Japanese girl at a 1987 Bon Jovi concert.

A passenger talks about crash landing on the Hudson River

Ric Elias had a front-row seat on Flight 1549 as it crash-landed in the Hudson River in January 2009. What went through his mind as the plane went down? Watch this video and learn the 3 things he learned in those short moments before he thought he would die. I could not imagine the horror.
